  • Big Creek Lake

Big Creek Lake was established along with its bigger brother, the Saylorville Lake. Unlike Saylorville, Big Creek is used mainly for recreational purposed. The water level stays pretty consistent and thus the shorelines are much prettier. With its 883 acres the lake is a lot of fun to sail and is my personal favorite in our area.

The lake has several boat ramps but I'd consider only the ramp by the marina as an option for sailboats. The boat tramp has a nice long dock from which one can easily sail from and to without the usage of motors. Right beside the dock is a gravel beach that is used mainly for hobies, canoes, and wind surfers to launch their boats.

Mostly fishing boats and pontoon boats dominate the lake and most of them do obey the no-wake restriction and are quite polite torward sailboats.

The lake has also a nice large sand beach with a big wooden play castle and a marina with a concession stand. Neither the boat ramp nor the beach charges a fee for their usage.
