    Diamondhead Hat

I made this hat for a good friend of mine. The pattern comes from Knitter's Magazine, Summer 2001. The yarn used is Noro Kureyon, a very interesting yarn. This yarn is variegated, but the color repeats are very long, so the hat looks as if it was done with several different yarns. The colors in this picture really don't do the yarn justice, you really have to see it in person! The colors are very rich and vibrant. Very exciting to knit with, as I was always wondering what was going to come next. The knitting itself went very fast and the pattern was easy to memorize after just a few diamonds. The way the edges of the diamonds are knit makes it very easy to pick up for the next row of diamonds. There are TONS of ends to sew in for this hat, but don't let that deter you. I just ran the ends down the seams of the diamonds, so the sewing in of the ends went very fast. I was very surprised. When I first did the I-cord bind off, I did it too tight and it almost wouldn't fit around my head. So, I ripped it out and tried again with a larger needle and paying a lot of attention to keeping it loose, and now it is great! The I-cord bindoff gives the hat a very finished look.

All around a very satisfying and fun project. I hope my friend likes to wear it as much as I liked to knit it!
