  • XP Tip: Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

Even some employees at Microsoft must have thought that some useful utilities are missing in Windows XP. Several useful utilities are released as part of the PowerToys packages, but they can also be downloaded and installed for free. You'll find them at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx. Below are some additional notes about some of the utilities.

    Virtual Desktop Manager:

To enable the Virtual Desktop Manager (MSVDM) right click on the task bar, go to "Toolbars" and check "Desktop Manager". Now the "MSVDM" along with five buttons are displayed. To get to the help file or to change settings of the deskop manager right click on one of the buttons.

I personally like to remove the label "MSVDM" as it does not add any features. This is done simply by deselecting the "Show Title" when right clicking on one of the MSVDM buttons. To do so you must have the task bar unlocked since otherwise the "Show Title" option is not available.
