Sundstrand Aerospace

While I was working on my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to work for Sundstrand Aerospace in Rockford, Illinois, as a mechanical engineering co-op student. During my first session, I worked in the Mechanical Systems section on Ram Air Turbines (RATs), which are emergency electrical and/or hydraulic power systems for airplanes.

My second session took place in the Manufacturing department where I worked with Integrated Drive Generators (IDGs) and Constant Speed Drives (CSDs) which are on a number of popular passenger jets (yes, it's still safe to fly).

I've got to say, doing a co-op truly enhanced my undergraduate experience. When I went back to classes, I had a whole new perspective and interest in the subjects. If you are a college student, I would highly recommend looking for a co-op or internship before you graduate. Who knows, Sundstrand might have a spot for you.
